Ormara is the name of a port city located in the province of Balochistan, Pakistan. The city is located in the Makran Coast and it lies on the western side of Karachi. The port is also famously called as the “Periplus of the Erythraean Sea”. People who are traveling from Karachi to Gwadar will see the port on their way as it falls in between the route.

The historical background of the city dates back to the era of Alexander the Great. It was pointed out by many historians that he stayed there along with his army on his way back from the Indus region after he successfully conquered the different lands of KPK, Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

The city is believed to be named after one of the generals that belonged to his army. The name of the general was Ormoz and it was after his name that now the city is referred to as Ormara. The general died on their way back to the Indus region.
